About Ivan
Professor Ivan Birch is Consultant Expert Witness in forensic gait analysis with FGA Services, Emeritus Professor of Human Sciences, and has 45 years’ experience of gait analysis.
Ivan worked in higher education for more than 30 years, teaching biomechanics, anatomy, physiology and research methods, before becoming a full-time forensic gait analyst in 2012.
He has researched and published extensively on various aspects of gait, biomechanics and education, presented at numerous national and international professional conferences, and was co-author of the Code of Practice for Forensic Gait Analysis, produced in association with the Forensic Science Regulator (UK).
Ivan is a Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, and in 2015 he was awarded the status of Chartered Scientist by the Science Council for his work in gait analysis as evidence.
Ivan is included on the National Crime Agency Specialist Operations Centre Expert Witness Advisers Database in the UK.
